Cielo Azul is an Atlanta based producer with an ear for odd samples and the production style to execute them. Think Balam Acab and Nico Jaar having a baby who’s obsessed with Lex Luger. This dude takes the dirty south aesthetic of “trap music”, strips it down, and adds atmosphere, soul, and emotion to it.

He just released an EP titled “Late Nights // Late Mornings” for free on his bandcamp and you can stream it here. Featuring samples ranging from Grouper to My Bloody Valentine, this producer mixes it up and creates something unique and interesting.

Mount Eerie - Lone Bell (Clear Moon | 2012)

Lone Bell is a track off of Phil Elverum’s latest project “Clear Moon”. I’ve personally considered Elverum (The genius behind albums such as “The Glow Pt. 2” and “Wind’s Poem”) to be one of the greatest, if not the greatest songwriter of our generation and he really takes his sound to an entirely new level on “Clear Moon”. Jazzy drums and an intriguingly seductive bass line set the pace for Phil’s signature use of bizarre but beautiful chord progressions and synth tones. The rest of the sound soon falls into place, taking the listener away to the world Phil is great at expressing in his music.

This album is impeccable, and upon my first few listens it’s definitely been one of the best releases from this year. Stop thinking about it and just listen to it.

Death Grips | Get Got (The Money Store, 2012)

First track off of the new Death Grips LP entitled ‘The Money Store’. The group takes a more experimental approach on this album when compared to last years ‘Exmilitary’ LP. Either way these dudes slay….enjoy!

Lately I’ve really been vibing to a lot of instrumental hip-hop/experimental electronic music, and Atlanta based producer Moist Ghost combines both of these qualities into his style of deep-sea, marine themed beats and grooves. Check out this track ‘Ocean Trench’ that he recently released for free a few days ago. Really aquatic textures, almost a reggaeton-like percussion beat, with an ocean wave haze sitting on top of it all. It’s really dope.
